How to Apply

Download the Application

Download the appropriate permit application form below and complete all required fields.

Gather Your Documents

Assemble all required supporting documents including site plans, construction drawings, and contractor information.

Submit to Your Municipality

Submit your completed application and documents to your town or county clerk's office along with the applicable fee.

Plan Review

Our Building Official reviews your application. Standard residential plan review is completed within 5–7 business days. Commercial projects may require additional time.

Permit Issued

Once approved, your permit is issued. Post it visibly at the job site before work begins.

Schedule Inspections

Call or submit an inspection request online at each required inspection stage. Do not cover work before it is inspected.

Permit Types

Residential Building Permit

Required for new home construction, additions, structural alterations, and major renovations to single-family and two-family dwellings.

Examples: New home, room addition, garage, deck, carport, structural wall removal

Fee: Based on project valuation — see fee schedule below

Commercial Building Permit

Required for new commercial construction, tenant improvements, change of occupancy, and structural work on commercial buildings.

Examples: New commercial building, office build-out, restaurant renovation, warehouse

Fee: Based on project valuation — see fee schedule below

Electrical Permit

Required for new electrical service, panel upgrades, rewiring, and new circuit installation in residential and commercial properties.

Examples: Panel upgrade, EV charger, new circuits, service entrance

Fee: Flat fee based on scope — see fee schedule

Plumbing Permit

Required for new plumbing installations, water heater replacement, sewer line work, and gas line installation.

Examples: Water heater, new bathroom, gas line, sewer repair

Fee: Flat fee based on scope — see fee schedule

Mechanical / HVAC Permit

Required for HVAC system installation or replacement, ductwork, and mechanical equipment.

Examples: HVAC replacement, new ductwork, mini-split installation

Fee: Flat fee based on scope — see fee schedule

Demolition Permit

Required for full or partial demolition of any structure. Utility disconnection verification required prior to issuance.

Examples: Structure demolition, partial demolition, outbuilding removal

Fee: Flat fee — see fee schedule

Sign Permit

Required for installation of permanent signage on commercial properties. Zoning compliance review included.

Examples: Monument sign, wall sign, pole sign, digital sign

Fee: Flat fee based on sign area — see fee schedule

Accessory Structure Permit

Required for sheds, detached garages, carports, and other accessory structures over 200 square feet.

Examples: Storage shed, detached garage, carport, workshop

Fee: Based on project valuation — see fee schedule

Required Documents

Completed permit application form
Site plan showing property boundaries and structure location
Construction drawings / plans (2 sets for commercial)
Contractor license number (if using a licensed contractor)
Property owner authorization (if applicant is not the owner)
Energy code compliance documentation (new construction)
Erosion and sediment control plan (disturbed area > 1 acre)
